The Zone - Volume 32

While we could not have possibly envisioned that we would still be in this pandemic, at this level, last March … we are. As the Holiday Season begins, we are once again confronted with decisions on how to remain connected with family and friends while simultaneously celebrating and staying healthy and safe. Reflecting on our experiences of the year thus far, and what we have learned about ourselves, we can make conscious decisions to intentionally create new customs/practices or let the chips fall where they may. Creating new customs/practices can be a wonderful time to communicate with loved ones about what is truly important to them and what can be let go of during this time. Much like loosening the reins on a horse, it becomes a joint effort between the rider and the horse on how they move forward and where they go. If you choose to have this discussion, reflect on those customs/practices that are dear to your heart and, if needed, think about how they can be transformed while still providing you with the same meaning and purpose. This review of the holidays, with loved ones, can be a very meaningful start to the season.

Key Takeaways

  • The Holiday Season and the intensity of the Coronavirus Pandemic is upon us.

  • Loosening the reins provides possibilities for growth.

  • The decision to change is ours if we so choose to make it.

Best Practices

  • Assess what is important to you during the Holidays.

  • If needed, begin the discussion sooner than later.

  • Be open to new ideas.

Things to Limit

  • Digging in your heals.

  • Over-Romanticizing the holidays.

  • Not taking care of your health in difficult times.

Quote of the Week

“Tradition is a guide and not a jailer.”

~ W. Somerset Maugham

In summary, we have been enduring and surviving during a difficult time. Recognize the strengths that you possess, that you have developed and that you have used to this point and call upon them again. By doing this you are growing more resilient and you will create the Holiday Spirit that can refresh and nurture you and your loved ones.

Be well,
